Nigeria and Japan have agreed to significantly expand economic cooperation, trade, and political dialogue following a strategic meeting between the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, and the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Japan, Mr. Shin Honda.

 During the courtesy visit, Ambassador Enikanolaiye commended Japan’s global leadership in technological innovation and manufacturing, reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment to attract greater Japanese investment into Nigeria's key economic sectors. 

Mr. Honda reaffirmed Japan’s strategic partnership, highlighting ongoing development support in infrastructure, healthcare, and agriculture, heavily supported by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO).

?The diplomatic talks set the stage for two major upcoming milestones aimed at boosting private-sector collaboration and bilateral relations:

?The Nigeria-Japan Special Policy Dialogue: Scheduled to take place in Abuja at the end of August 2026, featuring a high-profile visit from Japan's Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs.

?Strategic Private Sector Engagement: A planned visit by prominent Nigerian business leader, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to Japan later this year to foster deeper corporate investments and technology transfer.

?Both nations concluded the meeting by pledging to sustain regular consultations, ensuring the upcoming August dialogue yields mutually beneficial advancements for both economies.
