Residents Laud FG  for resolving consumer electricity challenges in State

A cross-section of Bauchi Residents who appeared before the Federal  Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) platform has applauded the federal government intervention in resolving electricity consumer complaints which has risen in the state.

 

The activity conducted by FCCPC  from Feb.21st to 24th received and resolved electricity consumer challenges in Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) coverage areas.

 

Speaking, Prof. Abdullah Yusuf expressed satisfaction, adding that the program has renewed hope for Nigerians on the protection and promotion of consumer rights.

 

“I came with my billing complaint of which my estimated bill was N600,000 and I pay N90,000 monthly.

 

“But after all discussion and exploration, it was resolved that I would be paying N50,000 only.

 

“I commend the federal government of Nigeria for setting up FCCPC because they are doing well for citizens,” he said.

 

Also, Mr Tanko Dutse, said that the commission stands up for the rights of consumers, hence the need to create more awareness on such activities.

 

Mr Abdullah Abdulmumini encouraged the commission to create awareness of the rights of the consumers in all sectors to ensure that Nigerians were not short-changed.

 

In his closing remark, Mr Abdullahi Adamu, A.g Vice chairman of the Commission, said that FCCPC received complaints in all the sectors in the country.

 

He said that the exercise was conducted on electricity considering the essential needs of power in human development.

 

Adamu said that most of the complaints were on billing, metering, buying and installation of transformers and installation funds being paid by consumers.

 

Adamu explained to the gathering that the exercise was conducted with stakeholders in the power sector to resolve issues amicably.

 

“The commission resolves complaints from various sectors but we are on electricity because it is key in all our daily activities.

 

“We’re here for four days together with the officials of the Nigeria Electricity Management Agency and Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission.

 

We will continue to receive and resolve complaints from the general public,” he added.
