Nigeria Commiserates with China Following Devastating Border Floods and Landslides


?The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sympathy to the government and people of China following the destructive floods and landslides that struck Gyirong County in Tibet along the China-Nepal border on August 26, 2026.


In a statement issued by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Nigeria extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, which include Chinese and Nepali citizens as well as foreign nationals from Australia, India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and the United States affected by the tragic loss of lives, injuries, and widespread destruction.



?Commending the swift response of President Xi Jinping and the Chinese rescue teams, the Federal Government lauded the ongoing emergency and humanitarian operations in the disaster zone.



Reaffirming its solidarity with China during this challenging period, Nigeria offered prayers for the repose of the deceased and wished comfort and a speedy recovery to the injured and displaced as rescue and reconstruction efforts continue.
