Speaking on Saturday during an empowerment event in Zaria Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, the Speaker presented motorcycles to local teachers to ease their daily commute, boost punctuality, and alleviate rising transport costs.

?Drawing from his early career as a primary school teacher between 1981 and 1988 under the Zaria Local Government Education Department, Speaker Abbas highlighted the unseen sacrifices of educators, from spending personal funds on classroom materials to making long, difficult journeys to school.

He stressed that while infrastructure and digital tools are valuable, effective learning ultimately relies on the steady presence of committed teachers.

The motorcycle distribution, which brings the total number of teachers empowered in his constituency to over 3,000—including 1,000 distributed during the 2026 Democracy Day—is designed as a practical intervention to improve teacher mobility, morale, and rural educational reach.

?Speaker Abbas noted that these local efforts align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's broader national education reforms, including the HOPE Education programme, digital training initiatives, and the elevation of the Federal College of Education in Zaria to a Federal University of Education.

Reaffirming the National Assembly's commitment through its Legislative Agenda, the Speaker pledged continuous parliamentary oversight to ensure approved education funds yield tangible support for teachers and pupils directly in the classroom.
