The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that four political parties—the APC, APM, APP, and Boot Party—will contest the Ondo South Senatorial by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
The election is being held to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of former senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Okitipupa, Ondo State REC Mutiu Agboke said INEC is fully prepared to conduct a credible election across the six local government areas in the district.
A total of 673,446 registered voters across 1,354 polling units and 66 wards are expected to participate. INEC has deployed BVAS and the IReV portal to ensure transparency, while all sensitive materials have been received and secured.
The commission has also tested and certified 1,359 BVAS machines, with 264 backup devices available to address any technical issues on election day.
