?The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Senator Aliyu Wadada, has committed to leading the committee with humility, inclusivity, and a dedicated focus on enhancing legislative collaboration across all tiers of government.
Speaking at the committee's inaugural meeting at the National Assembly, the lawmaker representing Nasarawa West described his appointment as a significant responsibility given the committee's vital role in parliamentary diplomacy and the promotion of legislative best practices.
To ensure an immediate and organized commencement of duties, Senator Wadada directed a review of the committee's existing work plan and calendar.
He outlined his core priorities, which include fostering significantly closer relationships with sub-national legislatures specifically state Houses of Assembly to bridge current gaps in interaction and promote national knowledge-sharing.
Furthermore, following a closed-door session, Senator Wadada briefed journalists and affirmed that the committee will actively work to deepen ties with major international legislative bodies, including the ECOWAS Parliament, the Pan-African Parliament, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), thereby strengthening Nigeria's legislative engagement both domestically and globally.
