The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, has called for a better Moral Upbringing while delivering her speech at the National Women Conference and Award Ceremony, held today at the Maryam Babangida Centre for Women Development, Abuja.
The Minister highlighted the critical need for a renewed focus on the moral upbringing of children, noting that too many young Nigerians are being influenced by poor role models who do not embody the values needed to build a thriving, just society.
“Our children are not living up to the good moral upbringing that is essential to their development,” the Minister said.
“They are, unfortunately, looking up to wrong models who are not the kind of mentors they should be following.”
She also spoke warmly of the vision behind the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the complementary Renewed Hope Initiative of Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, which focuses on inclusivity, equity, and sustainable development, with women at the heart of Nigeria’s national transformation.
“These initiatives embody a commitment to creating a society that values the empowerment of women, which is key to national progress and unity,” she stated.
The Minister emphasized the importance of moral responsibility as a means to foster positive change.
As part of the celebration, the Minister acknowledged the achievements of extraordinary Nigerian women who have excelled in various fields.
“These awardees are not just role models but proof that when women succeed, communities prosper and the nation thrives,” she remarked.
Sulaiman -Ibrahim further emphasized the importance of changing societal attitudes towards moral upbringing stressing that if gender equality and balance must be achieved in all spheres of life, then it begins with each individual making the choice to embrace integrity and good values.”
Earlier in her opening remarks, the President of the Women Models and Mentors Foundation , Bilikisu Abba Ibrahim said that the theme of the conference,*THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN MENTORSHIP* is apt and timely, especially in today’s dynamic world where womens leadership is not just an opportunity but a necessity.
She described mentorship as the bridge that connects the present potential to future accomplishments.
Abba Ibrahim opined that “Mentorship” is a collective action where everyone has a role to play in creating a world where women’s voices are heard, their contributions recognized and their potentials fully realized.
She further highlighted the significance of mentoring and leadership in empowering Women, while showcasing the efforts of the Women Models and Mentors Foundation.
She reaffirmed the organizations commitment to keep fostering growth and development amongst girls and women.
The ceremony, which celebrated the remarkable achievements of women across Nigeria, was a powerful reminder of the resilience, ingenuity, and strength of Nigerian women and their role in shaping the future of the nation.
