Gombe State University Celebrates Achievements in Medical Education, Inducts 56 New Doctors

Gombe State University (GSU) has added another milestone to its achievements by inducting 56 newly graduated medical doctors, bringing the total number of graduates from its medical program to 185 in just five years.

The event, held during the 5th Attestation Ceremony and the 2nd Professor Idris Muhammad Lecture, was marked by speeches highlighting the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its contributions to healthcare development in Nigeria.

Professor Muhammad M. Manga, Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, lauded the university’s progress in producing competent medical professionals.

He urged the graduates to uphold the values of professionalism and integrity, advising them to prioritize long-term success over immediate rewards.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who chaired the occasion, congratulated the new doctors for their hard work and dedication.

Represented by Professor Mu’azu Shehu Usman, he called on the graduates to focus on serving their community and addressing critical public health challenges, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Fatima Kyari, represented by Dr. Tijjani Ali, applauded GSU for creating an environment conducive to quality medical training. She urged the graduates to embrace professionalism during their housemanship and treat patients with compassion and respect.

In his remarks, Professor Emeritus Idris Muhammad praised GSU for its remarkable achievements, noting that it is the only state university in Nigeria to have graduated five consecutive sets of medical doctors.

He encouraged the new doctors to honor the legacy of their alma mater by adhering to ethical standards and excelling in their profession.

The ceremony underscored Gombe State University’s dedication to producing skilled and ethical medical professionals capable of addressing the nation’s healthcare challenges.
