Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, launched the 2025 annual Livestock Vaccination Exercise on Monday in Itas, headquarters of Itas/Gadau LGA.

The exercise aims to enhance livestock production and food security in the state by targeting at least 1.5 million animals across the 20 local government areas.

The vaccination campaign includes the procurement of over 10,000 doses of rabies vaccines in response to recent cases of animal bites involving dogs and other animals.

The exercise aims to promote a healthy livestock population and encourage livestock farming to boost the state’s economy.

Bauchi State is a leading state in livestock population, attributed to the influx of Fulani cattle breeders from conflict-affected areas.

The Governor announced plans to construct 100 dams along cattle routes to guarantee access to water and foster harmonious relationships between farmers and herders.

Mohammed also announced the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development to address challenges faced by herders and farmers, often resulting in violent clashes.

He said his government plans to partner with donor partners and non-governmental organizations to establish semi earth dams and drive livestock development.

The Emir of Katagum, Alh Umar Faruq II, commended the Governor’s efforts in supporting all sections of society.

Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf Tilde, and the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Muhammad Husaini Buzaye, urged livestock owners to take full advantage of the campaign by vaccinating their animals.
