The Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has strongly condemned the operations of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) and for alleged unnecessary disconnections in Bauchi State.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Secretary of the Council Isa Garba Gadsu made available on on Monday in Bauchi
The union expressed its displeasure over JED’s unnecessary disconnections, particularly for customers using prepaid meters, in an attempt to force them onto estimated billing.
The NUJ observed that the current payment system for power supply is flawed, with customers being forced to pay for services not rendered including “payments for darkness.”
The union criticized JED officials for deliberately frustrating and embarrassing customers, including those with prepaid meters, to benefit personally from estimated billing.
“The activities of JED officials in Bauchi State are unacceptable and must be addressed.
“We urge the Bauchi State Government, ministries, and agencies to explore alternative power supply options to avoid the exorbitant estimated bills issued by JED on a monthly basis.” said Garba Gadau,
The NUJ also called on JED management to engage trained personnel with good human relations skills to provide effective services to customers.
The union’s condemnation of JED’s operations in Bauchi State highlights the need for improved service delivery and transparency in the electricity distribution sector.
