The Not Too Young to Run initiative in Nigeria, once hailed as a breakthrough for youth participation in politics, has faced challenges in achieving its core goal of empowering young people to contest for leadership positions. Instead, many youths find themselves relegated to appointments rather than actively competing for electoral offices.
In a significant move to change this narrative, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has appointed Hon. Manga Josep, a youth leader and advocate, as the Executive Chairman of the Taraba State Printing Press Agency.
The Youth O’Clock Nigeria movement has commended Governor Kefas for this groundbreaking decision. In a statement signed by Comrade Abdulazeez Sani Labaran, National Coordinator of the 36 States Coordinators of the Youth O’Clock Advancement Association, the group described the appointment as a step toward inclusive governance and genuine youth empowerment.
Hon. Manga Josep, who previously served as Special Adviser on Waterways and Revenue Mobilization and is the Taraba State Coordinator of Youth O’Clock Nigeria, brings extensive experience and a track record of dedication to public service.
Labaran, pledged the unwavering support of Nigerian youths to Governor Kefas and encouraged Hon. Josep to maintain integrity and commitment in his new role. He also emphasized that the appointment reflects the governor’s dedication to promoting youth inclusion and fostering progressive governance in Taraba State.
This decision by Governor Kefas sets a powerful example of how political leaders can actively integrate young people into governance, moving beyond symbolic gestures to meaningful representation.
