The Women Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) has taken a significant step in supporting vulnerable widows in Bauchi State.
The organization donated N100,000 each to some selected widows, providing them with financial assistance to improve their lives.
Speaking during the donation on Wednesday in Bauchi,Hajiya Amina Bala Jibrin, the State Coordinator of WRAPA Bauchi, the organization is committed to addressing domestic violence.
“Physical and emotional abuse, and fighting for the rights of voiceless women, especially girls and widows,” she said
According to her, WRAPA also focuses on issues such as early marriage, rape, and inheritance, which disproportionately affect women.
Jibrin emphasized the importance of parents ensuring that their daughters are at least 18 years old before marrying and urged them to speak out against rape and other forms of violence.
The organization has an open-door policy, receiving cases related to gender-based violence and collaborating with women lawyers to push for justice.
The Honorable Commissioner for Women and Child Development, Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, represented by Hadiza Isa Ahmed, expressed gratitude to WRAPA for their kind gesture and assured the ministry’s support in uplifting the lives of widows in the state.
Makama Bauchi, Ahmed Makama, representing the Chiroma Alh Nuru Adamu Jumba, congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to use the money wisely.
He also assured the organization that they would address challenges related to rape cases and other problems faced by the communities.
Other notable speakers at the event included Ambassador Mai Kudi Grace of Wazobia Women Association, Hajiya Aminatu Sidi Mohd of FOMWAN Bauchi, and Hajiya Aziza Sunusi, Vice Chairperson of Doctors Wives Association.
Mrs. Elizabeth Deshi, speaking on behalf of the beneficiary widows, thanked WRAPA for their support and promised to utilize the funds to improve their families’ lives.
