The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Gombe State, Asma’u Muhammed Iganus, is actively working to rejuvenate the Ministry of Women Affairs by engaging with key stakeholders, including civil society organizations (CSOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

This collaboration seeks to ensure a meaningful impact as the Ministry prepares for the annual 16 Days of Activism, an international campaign focused on eliminating gender-based violence.

Commissioner Iganus has expressed a commitment to making the 2024 observance distinctive and impactful, aiming to establish a stronger foundation for ongoing partnerships with all stakeholders.

In a recent preparatory meeting, she invited attendees to propose activities for the event, with suggestions ranging from media campaigns spotlighting women to rallies, educational programs, and donation visits to correctional centers and orphanages.

Dr. Erisa Sarki Danladi, a community advocate, proposed conducting sensitization activities in selected communities to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV), noting that many people remain uninformed about its serious implications.

Following the meeting, Commissioner Iganus inaugurated a 25-member committee tasked with coordinating the 16 Days of Activism, scheduled to run from November 25 to December 10.

Speaking on behalf of the newly formed committee, Maigari Lawanti, Acting Chairman of the Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (ANGO), pledged full support for the initiative.

He highlighted the importance of teamwork to ensure this year’s program is both unique and impactful, affirming ANGO’s commitment to aiding the Commissioner in achieving these objectives.
