The Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Yakubu Adamu, has emphasized the importance of implementing the International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS) in state and local government operations.
Adamu made the remarks while declaring open a two-day capacity training workshop for officers involved in public financial management at Chartwell Hotel, Bauchi.
The workshop aimed to enhance the skills of accounting officers in implementing IPSAS.
Representing Adamu, Accountant General Alhaji Sirajo Muhammad Jaja highlighted the benefits of IPSAS implementation include high-quality financial reporting and
transparency and accountability
“As well as compliance with international best practices and efficient management of public funds,”
Adamu stressed the training’s importance, not only for participants but also for the state and local government administration.
He urged participants to actively engage throughout the workshop.
To ensure accountability, the Commissioner’ directed that comprehensive attendance lists be submitted to his office. Necessary action will be taken against those who fail to attend.
Earlier, The Accountant General of the Federation’s representative, Mr. Joshua Luka, emphasized IPSAS as an international best practice.
Luka stressed that IPSAS implementation ensures public funds are spent according to financial regulations.
The Bauchi State Government’s commitment to IPSAS implementation demonstrates its dedication to transparency and accountability in public financial management.
