Bauchi Govt Reiterates Commitment to Improve Access to Clean Water

The Bauchi State government has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing access to clean water across communities, aiming to promote the vital habit of hand-washing.

This pledge was made by State Commissioner of Water Resources, Alhaji Nuhu Zaki, during the 2024 Global Hand-washing Day commemoration.

Zaki, represented by Eng Samaila Mohammed Tella, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources, represented the commissioner.

Zaki emphasized that hand-washing is a simple yet powerful act requiring minimal resources, capable of preventing diseases like diarrhea, cholera, and respiratory infections.

The Commissioner’ encouraged stakeholders to advocate for improved sanitation, water, and hygiene infrastructure, ensuring communities have the necessary tools for good hygiene practices.

“By promoting hand-washing and access to clean water, Bauchi State aims to create a healthier future for its citizens ¹.

He urged parents, teachers, community leaders, and health workers to champion hand-washing, teaching children its importance and demonstrating it in daily life

The Global Hand-washing Day, Observed annually on October 15 to raise awareness about hand-washing with soap as an effective disease prevention method.

On his part, Alhaji Adamu Sabo, Acting General Manager of RUWASSA, stressed the need for effective hand-washing at critical moments, such as before eating and after using the toilet.

UNICEF’s representative highlighted hand-washing’s impact on school children’s health and intellectual development.
