Stakeholders in Bauchi State’s educational sector commemorated Global Handwashing Day on October 15th, advocating for a hand washing culture with soap and water among school children.

At Government Day Secondary School Misau, Chairman Alhaji Salisu Hussani Hardawa emphasized that hand washing should be a daily practice, not just observed on Global Handwashing Day.

“Regular hand washing boosts health, reduces hospital visits, and prevents communicable diseases,” he said.

Alhaji Bala Muhammed, Education Secretary, highlighted Islam’s emphasis on cleanliness, while Hajiya Suwaiba Lawan, WODASS Manager, urged local authorities to provide pad banks and soaps to secondary schools.

The event featured practical hand washing demonstrations, child life games, and drama presentations.

Organized by WaterAid Nigeria, DP World, WODASS, RUWASSA, and SUBEB, the theme “Why Are Clean Hands Still Important” aimed to promote good hygiene practices in schools and communities.
