Bauchi assembly urges National assembly to revisit fuel price policy

By Ahmed Ahmed

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the National Assembly and other relevant agencies to draw the attention of the federal government to revisit the new fuel price policy for the benefit of Nigerians.

The lawmakers made the resolution under matters of urgent public importance during plenary on Wednesday in Bauchi, citing the devastating impact of the policy on the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Member representing Duguri/Gwana Constituency, Bala Abdullahi Dan, moved the motion, emphasizing the need for the federal government to reassess the policy.

“The recent decision to increase the price of petroleum has compounded an already fragile situation caused by the initial decision,” Dan said. “Many Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet, and this policy has made life even more difficult.”

Dan stressed that the majority of Nigerians are unable to afford three square meals a day, making it imperative for the government to rethink the policy.

His colleagues supported the motion, urging the National Assembly to intervene and ensure that the federal government reviews the policy.

In a related development, Member representing Dass Constituency, Abdullahi Ahmed, called on the state government to construct a road from Unguwar Zagi-Bondi-Bausun-Bajar to Lir in Dass Local Government Area.

Ahmed highlighted the deplorable condition of the road, which has hindered economic activities and posed significant risks to travelers.

“The communities have been suffering for a long time, and it’s essential that we take action to alleviate their hardship,” Ahmed said.

He appealed to the state government to include the road project in the 2025 budget, emphasizing its importance as a lifeline for Dass Local Government Council residents.

The lawmakers’ resolutions reflect their commitment to addressing the pressing needs of their constituents and improving the overall well-being of Bauchi State residents.
