In a bid to address the shortage of health workers and physicians in his constituency, Member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Jaafar Gambo Leko, representing Bogoro, Dass, and Tafawa Balewa constituency in Bauchi State, has sponsored 83 students to study at the Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Sciences and Technology in Ningi.
Leko, who was represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Mr. Yau Dass, during the presentation of admission letters to the students in Dass local government area, expressed concern over the death of health professionals in the constituency.
He noted that the shortage has resulted in inadequate healthcare services, affecting the well-being of his constituents.
Leko said the sponsorship, which includes full scholarships for 82 students to study various health related disciplines worth N5,186,000, to address shortage of health workers in the constituency.
This part of his efforts to support the educational pursuits of youths in his constituency.
He emphasized that education is key to unlocking the potential of young people and that he is committed to encouraging educational development in his constituency.
Leko also revealed that he had discussed with Governor Bala Mohammed to provide employment for the students after their studies, ensuring that they have automatic employment upon graduation.
“This, he said, would not only address the shortage of health workers but also provide job opportunities for the youth in the constituency.
Earlier, Mr. Anas H Bununu, Legislative Aide to Leko, highlighted the various projects embarked upon by the representative to empower constituents, including provision of farm inputs, water facilities, electricity, health services, and employment.
He noted that Leko’s commitment to the well-being of his constituents is unwavering and that the sponsorship of the students is another testament to his dedication.
A beneficiary, Miss Wasila Said, speaking on behalf of the students, appreciated Leko for the opportunity to study medicine-related courses and promised not to disappoint him and the entire constituency.
She expressed gratitude for the sponsorship, which she said would enable her and her colleagues to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute to the healthcare sector in the constituency.
“It is also a testament to Leko’s commitment to the well-being of his constituents and his determination to leave a lasting legacy in the constituency.
