Deputy Speaker, Kalu sympathises with victims of Borno flood disaster, calls for action on climate change

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has expressed his concerns over the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State, commiserating with the families of the victims and other affected persons.

Reportedly caused by the collapse of Alau Dam following a downpour, the flooding wrecked havoc on the properties of the people including the palace of Shehu of Borno, displacing many people from their homes.

Kalu in his reaction bemoaned the tragedy, sympathizing with the victims, the people and the government of Borno State.

Attributing the downpour to the impact of global warming, Kalu also underscored the need for the activation of relevant policies on the subject of climate change around the country to help forestall future occurrences.

The Deputy Speaker urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to quickly step in and provide expected reliefs and succour to the victims.

He assured of adequate legislative interventions to ensure that the effect of the tragedy will not overwhelm the people.
