Gombe gov’t, Labour leaders, still Negotiating the 70,000 Naira Minimum wages

Civil servant in Gombe has start received their August salaries without the increment of the minimum wages adjustment, as the labour still on negotiation on how the increment will be implemented

Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, said his administration will intend to paid the new National minimum wages of 70,000 to the workers in Gombe state

The governor was represented by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, Ph.D who is also the Chairman, Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage negotiation, during a press briefing at the conference hall of the deputy Governor’s Office, Gombe.

 

Manasah Daniel Jatau who is also represented by the head of the civil servant Alh. Ahmed Kasimu Abdullahi,said that governor is paying the ten thousand naira as palliative since September 2023, added that he given ten thousand pending when the reach a negations between the federal government and the labour

He said it is now time for the government to separate the ten thousand naira from the workers’ salaries and pay the normal salary and later the palliative of ten thousand will be paid. Whenever the minimum wages we will go to be paid the workers would see the difference

Assuring that the governor is determine to paid the seventy thousand naira minimum wages, since he given the palliative of ten thousand naira to cushion the effects of subsidy removal

 

Added that the Governor is fully determined to pay the minimum wage. Unlike what you have been hearing in some quarters, the governor said he won’t pay. No, not at all. His Excellency is one of the governors in the forefront of payment of the new minimum wage”.

 

The Nigeria Labour Congress Chairman, Yusuf Ash Bello, confirmed that this was the position reached at the tripartite committee meeting on the new minimum wage.

 

“We had a brief discussion during our negotiation on the last 30,000 naira minimum wage due to some balance of some payment where we have agreed that this committee is a standing committee of minimum wage negotiation in the state.

 

As a result this same committee met to begin negotiation on the new 70,000 naira national minimum wage. However, in our tripartite committee meeting we have agreed to wait for the time the new minimum wage table as approved by the federal government will be released. Whenever it is released we will start full negotiation with a view to reaching an agreement on what is to be paid in Gombe State.
