The First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, has facilitated the disbursement of N50 million to 1,000 women in Gombe who are petty traders.
The initiative was carried out through the office of the Gombe State Governor’s wife, Hajiya Asma’u Yahaya.
Our correspondent reported on Thursday in Gombe that the financial support was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for families across the nation.
Mrs. Tinubu, represented by Hajiya Asma’u Yahaya, emphasised the government’s awareness of the challenges faced by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), particularly petty traders who play a crucial role in sustaining local economies.
“Today, through the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Empowerment Program, we are providing 1,000 pre-selected women petty traders in each state with a grant of N50,000 each to enhance and expand their businesses,” she said.
She also encouraged the women to support the government in building a stronger Nigeria, where every woman has the opportunity to succeed.
In her welcome address, Hajiya Aishatu Maigari, the Commissioner of Education, highlighted the vital role women play in society, stating, “If you empower a woman, you empower the entire nation” she said
Hajiya Lumbi Abubakar, the APC Women Leader in Gombe State, also expressed her pride in the entrepreneurial spirit of Gombe women.
She expressed optimism that the beneficiaries would make the most of the support provided to them.
A cross section of the beneficiaries who spoke to NAN expressed gratitude, noting that the initiatives was an opportunity to transform their dreams into reality.
According to them the support has been a lifeline, to enable them overcome financial challenges, thereby sustain their families, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The women have vowed to support the government’s vision of economic growth and national development.
