A Nigerian Senator representing Anambra South, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, is dead. He died Saturday morning in a London hospital.
People and politics reports that the senator has been in the United Kingdom since he left Nigeria few days ago. The condition became critical in the past 24 hours, leading to his death.
The cause of death is not clear as at Saturday morning. The man who holds the title, Ebubechukwuzo, was born on September 3, 1971 in Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State. He was aged 53.
A close associate who spoke on the issue said his family members, business and political associates were “deeply worried by the reports coming in from London”.
A business mogul, Ubah was the Chairman of Capital Oil, a leading downstream oil company he founded in 2001. Capital Oil boasts a tank farm with a storage capacity of over 190 million litres, a 32-arm loading gantry capable of discharging up to 55 million litres of petroleum products and a fleet of over 400 trucks for distribution of petroleum products nationwide.
He also runs the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation which engages in charitable activities.
His football club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, was at some point the toast of soccer fans in the Eastern part of the country and pushed seriously for national and continental football trophies.
He was married to Uchenna, a graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with whom he had 5 children.
Ubah was elected Senator in 2019 on the platform of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, and reelected on that same platform in 2023. He defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, earlier this year and has indicated interest in seeking the governorship of Anambra State in next year’s election.
Last February, the Senator and his campaign council donated a total of N71 million to the APC in Anambra State, a gesture that bolstered the party’s presence and strength in the state.
Ubah who once flew the Labour Party governorship flag in Anambra State in 2014, contested the same position in 2021 and came fourth in the contest won by Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
