Bauchi Speaker wants oil exploration to resume in Kolmani river

The Speaker Bauchi state house of Assembly Abubakar Suleiman has called on the state government to liaise with all relevant stakeholders at the federal government with a view to resume crude oil exploration in Kolmani River in State.

The speaker made the call in a motion he presented during plenary on Thursday in Bauchi

Sulaiman noted with concern that the drilling on the Kolmani site was suspended since the presidential inauguration and nothing tangible has been done so far.

According to him, since last year, the Nigerian National petroleum Company Limited has moved most of the drilling equipment to Nasarawa state and lake Chad leaving Kolmani with virtually nothing.

He added that the state Governor Bala Mohammed has made giant strides in the provision of an enabling environment required for full scale crude oil exploration, saying activities on the field have declined under unexplained circumstances.

The Speaker, enjoined both Bauchi and Gombe state houses of assembly to constitute a joint committee to visit the minister of petroleum resources,.

“NNPCL and NNDC with a view to finding out why activities have stopped on the site and request for immediate resumption of the activities.

Similarly, the state house of Assembly has passed into law a bill to amend the Bauchi State persons with disability 2024.
