An NGO, Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA) has trained 30 Journalists on the 2022 electoral act in Bauchi State.
Mr Ezenwa Nwagwu, Executive Director, (ED) PAACA said the training is paramount to acquaint journalists with the electoral reforms and also to strengthen the electoral process ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
He stated this at a one day capacity building training for media on electoral act, on Tuesday in Bauchi,
The Executive Director said the training was organised by PAACA in collaboration with MacArthur Foundation and other supporting Organisations.
“We are in Bauchi in continuation of our engagement across the country to popularise the legal framework with which elections are conducted across the country.
“The aim of the training was to equip journalists with the requisite knowledge and skills to popularise the 2022 electoral act and INEC guidelines to be acquainted with the election process,”he said.
“Lack of understanding of Electoral act is responsible for unnecessary tension and crisis,
He added that there is also ignorance of the legal framework for the conduct of elections and participation by stakeholders that are not conversant with the electoral act.
On his part, Mr Isaiah Amonye, Senior Program Officer PAAC, said there is need to build the capacity of the journalists, because of the role the play through educating and sensitisation and awareness creation
“The need to pay attention to the legal framework, and understand the election reforms and process that would work well for the country,” he said
Amonye urged journalists to access and be acquainted with the electoral act to adequately create awareness among the general public of the electoral acts.
