Lawmakers donates 50% of their salaries to cushion hardship

 

 

Members of the House of Representatives have unanimously resolved to cut their salaries by 50 percent for six months as due to raising standards of living in the country.

 

 

This was resolved by the green chamber today during plenary sequel to the adoption of a matter of urgent Public Importance sponsored by a member from Ogun State Isiaka Ibrahim.

 

Hon. Isiaka Ibrahim also appealed to the sponsors of a planned nationwide protests to instead dialogue with the government.

 

In his intervention, the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Benjamin Kalu who posted an amendment to Ibrahim’s motion, acceded to the proposed 50 percent reduction of the N600,000 monthly salaries to support Nigerians.

The Deputy Speaker said the salary cut is to be used to support the Federal Government’s efforts to address the rising cost of foodstuffs.

The motion was adopted and referred to the joint Committees on Humanitarian Affairs, Finance and Budget for compliance.
