CSOs collaborate NPC on comprehensive database for data comparison ,projections

Civil Society Organisations LANGA Women Development Initiative (LWDI) and Teenagers Empowerment Initiative Nigeria (TEMIN) in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) celebrates democracy partners National Population Commission (NPC) in establishing a comprehensive database for data comparisons and projections.

 

They made the commitment when they paid advocacy visit to National Population Commission (NPC) office in Gombe State to commemorate 2024 world Population day recently in Gombe.

 

Mrs Afodoa Ayuba , Programm Manager Langa Woman Initiative who led the team said CSOs would play a pivotal role in collaborating with NPC to enhance the quality and accessibility of demographic, social, and economic data.

“The partnership between CSOs and the NPC would establish a comprehensive database for data comparisons and projections in the state and country at large,” she said

“To enhance the accuracy and reliability of demographic data collection and analysis as well facilitate the accessibility and usability of demographic data for research, policy-making, and planning.

Ayuba added that the partnership would support informed decision-making by stakeholders across various sectors based on reliable demographic, social, and economic characteristics.

On her part, Mrs Grace Macdonald , Executive Director Teenagers Empowerment Initiative Nigeria (TEMIN) stressed that CSOs would contribute significantly to the collaboration through:data collection and validation.

“CSOs often assist NPC in data collection exercises, ensuring comprehensive coverage and accuracy through grassroots networks and local knowledge.

“CSOs would also raise awareness about the importance of demographic data among communities and stakeholders, thereby promoting participation in data collection efforts,” said

Macdonald pointed out that CSOs would support NPC in capacity building initiatives, enhancing the skills of personnel involved in data collection, analysis, and dissemination.

Responding, Mr. Jude Maigari, the Director of the Commission , explained thatNPC oversees the management of demographic data, ensuring its integrity, security, and accessibility.

He however pledged to always partner with civil society organizations to utilize demographic data to conduct analyses and projections that inform policy decisions, development planning, and resource allocation.

The Director appreciates the CSOs for engaging and determined to contribute toward the development of the country..
