New National Chairman of Arewa Media Writers Association Vows to Revive the Association’s Activities

 

 

 

The Newly elected chairman of the Arewa Media Writers Association has expressed his intention to revive the Association’s activities.

 

Following the meeting of the new leadership of the Arewa Media Writers Association, the second term, which took place in Kaduna on the 30th of June.

 

 

The meeting was chaired by the new leader of the association, Comrade Haidar Hasheem Kano, and the leaders of the branches of the association comprising of 8 Northern states including the Federal Capital Teritory.

 

 

The states involved include Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Plateau, Zamfara, Sokoto, Bauchi, Taraba and Abuja. The Association decided on some important issues related to its development which are listed below;

 

(1) The new National Chairman thanked the leadership of the association in the state branches for the support they gave him during his election which gave him the opportunity to replace the former National Chairman, Comrade Abba Sani Pantami who abate his position on his own accord.

(2) The new National Chairman stated that his door will be open to all members of the association, and he promised to discuss matters with other association leaders at the national and states level before passing any decision.

(3) Under his leadership, he promised to ensure reconciliation with all those who left the association in the past, in order to bring them back into the association, because of the contribution they will give to its development.

(4) The association promised to continue synergizing the patrons, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious leaders, in order to seek their guidance and suggestions for the new leadership of the association.

(5) The new National Chairman expressed his intention to organize a tour the northern states of the country where the association has branches, to meet with its branch leaders and other members of the association and to meet with stakeholders, to further encourage the members of the association to contribute to the development ground.

(6) The association expressed its disappointment that politicians and government officials are thwarting the roles of traditional rulers who are, for centuries regarded as sacred institution where we turn to for guidance and advice. The association asked the Federal Government for a special position for the traditional rulers in the constitution, which would give them the power to raise their status in the eyes of their subjects and other citizens.

(7) The association also expressed its disappointment regarding the menace of banditry in the states of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Niger, and Katsina. While the association commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the heads of security forces for their efforts towards addressing security situation in the North. However, the association also called for more security measures and the creation of new strategies to combat terrorism and militancy.

(8) The Association also condemned the signs of a resurgence of Boko Haram terrorist activities, as reported in the media there was an explosion in ​​Gwoza, Borno State , which caused the loss of lives of some Nigerians. After condoling with the people and the government of Borno State for this tragic incident, the association asked the MNJTF to ensure that suicide bombings and the use of children to commit such atrocities are curtailed.

(9) The association also expressed its intention to develop other ways to train members on some important activities for the development of self-reliance, while the association will continue to train its members on the use of digital devices for their gain, and the fight against spreading fake news.

(10) While the association applauds the efforts of the media in improving the democracy making citizens aware of their rights and freedoms, it also demands that they continue to expose the important issues that concern the people of the North to provide solutions and recommendations to the government and those affected, in order to take appropriate measures.

(11) The new National Chairman, Comrade Haidar Hasheem, also confirmed the reinstatement of Comrade Nazifi Abbas as the Chairman of the Kaduna State branch of the association, in a step to further improve the management of the association in the State.

(12) The Association was established on July 17, 2020, with the aim of bringing together young people who writes on social media, reorienting the youths on the dangers of negative posts on social media and encourage young writers to spread unadulterated information on the issues bedeviling the region.
