The Bauchi State House of Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed the bill to establish the Farmers and Herdsmen Board in the state
The Bill is titled, a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of Bauchi State Farmers and Herdsmen Board was read for the third time and subsequently passed during plenary.
The Speaker, Babayo Akuyam directed the Clerk, Mr Umar Gital to send a clean copy of the Bill to the State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed for his assent.
Shortly after the passage of the bill, Mr Dayyabu Mohammed, Chairman House Committee on Agriculture told newsmen that the bill was sponsored by the executive arm and referred to the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Forestry.
The establishment of the board will give powers to among other things, maintain grazing reserves, road reserves, stock routes, and watering points to manage and prevent conflicts between farmers and herdsmen.
“The Board is to advise the government on the creation of reserves be it grazing reserve areas to identify identifying and developing designating water courses for grazing animals in some parts of the state,” he said.
Mohammed further explained that the bill would retrieve all illegal encroachment and watering points for the betterment of both farmers and herdsmen.
According to him, the bill will go a long way in bringing sanity between farmers and herdsmen clash during and after the rainy season in the State.
