Girls Scholarship– AGILE Targets Ten Thousand Adolescent Girls

The projects Coordinator of Adolescent Girls Initiatives For Learning and Development (AGILE) in Gombe state Dr Amina Haruna Abdul says it has targeted Eighteen thousand adolescents for scholarship

Dr Amina Haruna Abdul disclosed this in an interview with our reporter in Gombe.

 

She said apart from the ten thousand girls in the poorest of the poor families another eight thousand out of school will be enrolled in a second chance education scheme

She said the AGILE project will construct schools equipped with toilets in some communities where such facilities were lacking before to facilitate the retention of girls in school.

The PC said the scholarship will not given directly to the girls it will be given to their parents directly after writing a Memorandum of understanding between them and the AGILE to ensure that the money was not misused for different purposes.

According to her, each child will be awarded a scholarship of fifteen thousand the scholarship is five thousand nairas from the instant and after they are registered ten thousand nairas will be added making fifteen thousand nairas in the first term, in the second and Third time will be given five thousand nairas respectively.

She however said the project is considering an upward review of the scholarship due to the high rate of inflation In the country.

Dr Amina said a committee will be set up to monitor children’s regular attendance at school and also investigate the circumstances forcing other children to abscond from school.

She urged the parents to ensure that their children attended school regularly.
