Kaduna Re-run election turned violent, one life lost- Graphics

 

 

The re-run elections in Rigacikun of Igabi local government area of Kaduna State which turned violent has resulted in the death of one Mansur Mai Shago who was hit by a stray bullet as a result of an attempt to snatch a ballot box.

 

 

According to reports, violence erupted when the counting of ballots started and it was observed that PDP was leading in Box 06 of the Centre ward of Rigacikun in the Igabi local government area.
Musa Umar told newsmen that when counting was ongoing a group of thugs in the company of police officers stormed the area with a Hilux with plate number RBC 144 AP snatched the ballot box and took away the INEC officials.
He said, that after they had left the former Speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani from APC who is also a resident of the area came to the scene in the company of police and the people started shouting ” Karyane bama yi”.
It was at that moment the police accompanying the former Speaker started shooting in the air and one alleged a woman police officer shot the crowd and a stray bullet hit Mansur Mai Shago whose shop was nearby.
Ibrahim Adamu a PDP Agent at the polling centre told our reporter that, he was attacked by the thugs who wounded him on his right hand when he was trying to run for his dear life.
He said trouble started when It was realised that PDP candidate Hussaini Jalo was leading at tox 06 in The Omen Centre ward in Rigacikin.  ” counting was ongoing when a group of thugs came into the collation centre and attempted to snatch the ballots box and we resisted”.he said.
According to him when the thugs and the police decided to go with the INEC officials and agents around the runaway and on coming back he encountered the thugs and they wounded him at hand.

Mansur Mai Shago who was shot by a stray bullet was rushed to the hospital, he reportedly died at around 10:00 pm on Saturday and his funeral was scheduled to be held on Sunday at 10:00 am in Fada Central Mosque in Rigacikun.

The Rigacukun Divisional Police Officer and the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer could not be reached to confirm the story as at the time of filling this report.
