The Nigeria Red Cross Bauchi Office has sought the support of the Bauchi State Government and individuals on disaster management and risk reduction in the state.

Mr Hassan Yahaya Disaster Management officer Red Cross, Bauchi office, made the call in an interview with Journalists on the 2023 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in Bauchi

He explained that on 13 October of every year, the global community celebrates the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction,

“That allows acknowledging the progress being made toward reducing disaster risk and losses in lives.

“Livelihoods and health, while reminding the world that disaster risk is man-made,” he said.

According to him, the 13th day of October was yesterday Friday. It was a short day, so we decided to mark the day today Saturday by clearing drainages, and refuse and removing grasses that cover roads.

“To give the day recognition by organising the sanitation exercise as part of risk reduction,” Yahaya said.

The Disaster Management officer urged the government, individuals, private agencies, Non-governmental Organisations and the media to support the Red Cross in its mission of disaster management and risk reduction.

Yahaya noted that disasters often strike without warning and response to them is often minimal without government Support.

“That is we are seeking all the support to strengthen our responses during disasters and our auxiliary role in responding quickly to disaster.

“To equally alleviate the situation of the vulnerable people which include those affected by disaster, epidemics, armed conflicts

“As well as the poorest communities in both urban and rural areas amongst whom are women, children, aged, displaced and other vulnerable people,” Yahaya said.
