The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Case Management Committee in Bauchi State with the Support of Attah Sisters Helping Hand Foundation (ASHHF) has said eradication of SGBV against women and girls is a responsibility that involves everyone.
The Committee stated this at the end of September monthly meetings on Saturday in Bauchi, the meeting resolved to involve all in the fight against sexual gender-based violence in the state.
The meeting had in attendance government officials, health workers, parents, teachers, traditional and religious leaders, People With Disabilities, and Media among others.
Mrs Grace Maikudi the acting Chairperson of the Committee commended members for their turn up to the meeting.
She explained that the Committee has the responsibility of protecting women, girls, men and boys against SGBV at all times
“At all locations, including in the home, school and work, in public places, on public transport, and at aid distribution points.
“To also ensure that SGBV survivors can confidentially report incidents and have timely and non-discriminatory access to services and support, including medical, psychosocial, legal and material assistance, as well as safe spaces where needed,” Maikudi said.
She added that always ensure that SGBV survivors can seek a judicial remedy if they wish.
“As well encourage and enable persons of concern to become actively involved in protecting women, men, girls and boys against SGBV, including through community-based protection networks and initiatives,” she said.
On his part, The Programme Manager of ASHHF Mr Kingsley Yallings reminded members of the advocacy visit to the new Commissioners of Education, Women Affairs, and Justice.
“Police commissioner and the commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps of Bauchi to brief them of the committee’s activities and to solicit their support,” he said.
He said the impact of this committee in mitigating the occurrence of SGBV specifically rape in Bauchi State is huge, noting that in the committee’s 4 years of existence,
“It has secured 27 judgements in SGBV cases appreciating all members for their unwavering support and commitment to ensure this committee achieve its mandate.
Mr. Yalling also appreciated Global Affairs Canada for funding this project through Action Aid Nigeria.
