An NGO Attah Sisters Helping Hand Foundation (ASHH) in Bauchi State has empowered 30 households on livestock skills with the support of Women for Women International in Ganjuwa and Bauchi Local government areas of the state.

The empowerment is under the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) that motivates behavioral change in households, and this fuels wider change through peer-sharing.

The GALS project officer of the Foundation Mrs. Precious Alfred disclosed this at the training session on Friday in Bauchi.

She said each of the 30 households were given two goats male and female making 60 goats with 15 households from Kafin Madaki community in Ganjuwa LGA and Miri Community in Bauchi Local LGA .

She explained that the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) activity is a methodology used across the world to eradicate Gender Inequality and norms of masculine behavior in the household.

“GALS facilitators and community members use visual diagrams to work through the process, which is conducted in three phases that are led by the community,” she said

Mrs. Alfred said the foundation is sustaining the outcomes of the resourcing change project phase 1, which had 30 households trained and empowered with livestock.

“The Foundation is now set to train another 30 households to improve their livelihood, financial literacy and to reduce violence among households through the GALS methodology.

“That would provide assets to households in the form of livestock, combined with intense training on how to utilize those assets for production,” The Project officer said.

A Participant at the training, Malam Mustapha Madaki, expressed their appreciation on behalf of the communities, saying the project has improved their financial literacy and built gender equality and participation in their families.

Madaki, who is also the group leader of Kafin Madaki GALS class, appreciated the Foundation and the donor pledging to make use of knowledge gained after the training in his household.

Another participant from Miri, Abdulrasheed Mohammed also thanked the foundation for choosing their household, adding he can’t wait to transfer the knowledge gained to his community members.
