IYD : Bauchi youth advocates for establishment of more vocational institutions

The Nigeria Youth Parliament in Bauchi State has advocated for the establishment of more vocational training institutions to be equipped for the youth to acquire skills needed for gainful employment.

 

Our Correspondent reports that International Youth Day (IYD) is commemorated every year on 12 August.

 

Hajiya Hauwa Hassan, the Convener of Youth International Day rally and a visit to Gov Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Saturday.

She said the youth need more vocational training institutions so as to accommodate many youths who are willing to acquire skills that will make them self-employed.

 

“Vocational education and training will produce skills that respond to the labor market’s demand, and contribute to economic development of the state and the country,” She said.

 

Hassan also lamented over the hike in school fees, calling on the government to reduce school fees for youth to afford western education which is paramount for development of the country.

 

The convener commended Gov Mohammmed administration’s for including youth in his administration, calling for more inclusion of youth in governance.

 

Gov Mohammmed , represented by his deputy Mr Auwal Jatau stressed that our environment is facing numerous challenges, including climate change, deforestation, air and water pollution.

 

This year’s theme is apt ” green skills for youth towards a sustainable world”

“These issues demand immediate action, and it is you, the youth who have the power to make a difference.

” I urge you to acquire skills that will empower you to mitigate the impact of human activities on the environment,” he said.

The Governor, reminded the youth that education plays a vital role in equipping young people with green skills, knowledge, and ideas.

“Our schools, colleges, and universities are encouraged to incorporate sustainability into their curriculum that will enable the youth to become useful members of society and future leaders.

“We have made a huge investment in our education sector with the renovation and construction of many schools in a deliberate effort to restore the lost glory for qualitative education to the students in the state,” Mohammed said.

 

According to him, the youth in the State are lucky to have a youth-friendly administration that is investing so much in our youths through capacity building,

“Placing them in strategic positions that will allow them to contribute to nation-building and also discourage them against engaging in social vices,” he said

He however urged the youth to support the government’s programmes and policies that seek to uplift the lives of youths and women in the state.
