Bauchi Emir urge NAWOJ not to compromise their responsibilities as watchdog’s

Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu has charged members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) not to compromise their responsibilities as Journalists and watchdog of the society.

 

Adamu gave the advice when the new executives of NAWOJ paid him a courtesy visit in his palace in Bauchi Thursday.

 

He urged the association not to compromise their credibility, honesty and professionalism while gathering and interpreting their reportage.

 

He enjoined them to adhere to the ethics of the profession and to serve as a bridge between the government and the people.

 

He implored the members to mentor and educate young ones who are aspiring to join the profession, with a charge to create awareness that will bring about peace and unity in the society.

 

He said as women Journalists, their profession has a direct impact on the populace hence, they should be efficient, proactive and incorruptible.

 

“The press can be the voice of the voiceless, I believe journalism serves as a bridge between government and the people.

 

“I implore you people to rise up to the challenge. I am glad to hear that the chairperson said you are ready to educate especially women and girls.

 

” It is important to create programs that will bring about peace and unity amongst our people, especially our rural dwellers ,” the emir said.

 

He however congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to take the mantle of leadership seriously.

 

Earlier, The chairperson of NAWOJ Hajiya Rashida Yusuf explained that they are in his palace to seek his blessings and guidance.

 

She said that NAWOJ has initiated a lineup of activities that will have direct bearing on the lives of women and girls in the state.

Yusuf appreciated the Emir for his time and promised to initiate programs that will touch lives positively in Bauchi State.
