NEMA distribute relief materials to 650 devastated households in Bauchi

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has on Thursday commenced first phase distribution of relief materials to 650 vulnerables and 2022 flood affected households in Bauchi State.

 

Mr Suleiman Muhammad, Assistant Director, Relief and rehabilitation, NEMA said in Bauchi that the items would be distributed to 650 households across the 20 local government areas of the State.

 

The first phase would cover Ningi , Darazo , Bauchi, Katagum, Toro, Alkaleri and Zaki local government areas in the state.

He said the distribution of the items is for the 2023 National Special Economic and livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI) for the 2022 flood affected persons and the most vulnerables in the state.

“We are starting with the first phase of distribution to be followed by the subsequent phase two and three respectively.

“The verification of registered 2022 flood victims for the SNELEI intervention was designed to provide support to victims of the 2022 flood disaster targeting 13,226 households across the state.

“The support includes food items, livelihood support tools and crop seedlings, among others, which will be distributed directly to the victims to build their socio-economic resilience,” Muhammad said.

According to him, the interventions would be implemented by NEMA-SEMA, on the number of people affected by the 2022 flood and classified as most vulnerable in the state.

The items include rice, beans , Soya beans , maize, groundnut oil, Maggi cubes, blankets mattress, mats stove ports, soap, detergent mosquito nets,

Others are seedlings, pesticides, liquid fertiliser, sewing machine, grinding machine, sprayer among others,” The Assistant Director said.

Responding, Mr Abdullahi Usman Chairman State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has commended the federal government for establishing a special intervention programme to alleviate the sufferings of vulnerables and flood affected persons.

He said the distribution is timely considering the hardship in the country, saying the interventions would help in rebuilding their lives and alleviate their sufferings.
