The outgoing President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, said that the Ninth Senate that he presided over received 705 complaints from citizens within four years.

In his farewell speech on Saturday at the Assembly Hall, Ahmad Lawan said they received 146 complaints in the first year, 239 in the second year, 232 in the third year, and 88 in the third year.

“They’re all at different stages of achieving demand,” he said.

Likewise, the members of the Ninth Senate presented 361 motions and adopted 488 resolutions on various issues that drew the government’s attention to them, according to him.

“The monitoring committees of the Ninth Senate have made 371 official visits to ministries, departments, agencies, and places of work across the country,” as he explained.

Next Tuesday, the 10th Senate is expected to be sworn in, while the political debate continues about who will replace Ahmad Lawan as president.

The ruling All Progressive Congress wants the senators to elect Godswill Akpabio from Akwa Ibom State in the south-South as president and Barau Jibrin from Kano in the north-west as his deputy.
