Nigeria’s worsening insecurity is due to bad governance _Jega

Professor Attahiru Jega, Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has pointed out that the worsening insecurity in Nigeria is due to bad governance.

Jega, who is the keynote speaker at the Pre-Inaugural Lecture organised in honour of Umaru Bago Mohammed, the governor-elect of Niger State, said the prevailing national security challenges in Nigeria are caused by poor management of complex diversity and poor governance complicated by heightened mobilisation of ethno-religious identities, especially during political and electoral contests.

The former INEC Chairman also said the number of deaths and abductions due to worsening security challenges had risen significantly in recent times and tasked governments at all levels on effective collaboration to tame the tide.
