The Personnel of the Nigerian Peace Corps in Bauchi State have commended the National Assembly for passing the bill for assent by President Muhammadu Buhari to become part of the paramilitary board of Nigeria.
Our correspondents report that Wednesday last week the National Assembly has forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari the harmonized version of the bill on Nigerian Peace Corps for assent after its passage by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The bill, if it is assented to, would give legal backing to existing Peace Corps of Nigeria that had been operating on template of volunteerism over the years.
It will now be a federal government owned and funded agency in the name of Nigeria Peace Corps.
Behind this background, personnel of Nigeria Peace corps (NPC) in Bauchi organized a rally to appreciate the National Assembly Senate and the house representative for passing the bill into law.
The State Commandant Nigerian Peace Corps, CN Abdullahi Inuwa Sambo has appreciated the assembly for making this effort of passing the bill into law.
He said the rally became necessary to appreciate Allah and President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring the actualisation of the Nigerian Peace Corps into the paramilitary Board.
He enjoined the officers of the Corps to exhibit a high sense of responsibility in the discharge of their duties.
On his part, the Deputy Commandant Admin of NPC Bauchi command, Abubakar Abdulhameed said, the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill, is a bill for an act to establish peace, Volunteerism, Community Services, Neighborhood watch and related matters.
He added that the NPC has adopted core values to include, impartiality, confidentiality, non-discrimination, integrity and trust among others.
He said the NPC was established to create and intensify public awareness to enhance, stakeholders and traditional rulers participation, protection, prevent violent extremism and foster sustainable peace and development.
Abdulraheed called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of tolerance, forgiveness, inclusivity, interfaith harmony, co-existence, and peace building across Nigeria.
He said with the level of insurgency and criminalities ravaging the society, citizens have to put mechanisms of love, peace, Unity and togetherness into consideration to ensure a better Nation.
The personnel however appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent the bill for the Corps to have full backing of the law of the country.
