We’re committed to youth empowerment – Gov. Bala Mohammed


The Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, has reiterated his commitment to embark on programmes that would develop and empower youth with entrepreneurial skills for wealth creation and self-sufficiency.


Mohammed stated at a campaign rally, seeking re-election in Bogoro on Thursday said continuous empowerment of youths is essential to any society’s development.


“With the number of unemployed youths in the country there is a need for urgent action to be taken to address the ugly situation in the state.




He said if elected for a second term, he would emphasize and introduce skills acquisition and entrepreneurial skills for the youth to manage their own businesses would put them in a position to drive economic development.


“This administration has undertaken empowerment programmes of youth and women to all the 20 local areas in the state,” he said.


The governor promised to always identify with any initiative that would enable youths in the state to actualise their potentials.


Earlier, Mr Gwamis Bogoro, Chieftain of People Democratic Party (PDP) in Bogoro lamented over the army of unemployment in the community that needs to be tackled.


“Youth empowerment can curb the rate of poverty to a large level. One of the keys to empowering the youth is with skill development.


“When a youth is equipped with essential skills, he or she can utilize them to feed, assist others, and even invest for future use, aiding the nation economically.


“This will in-turn contribute to the increase in employability and add to the Gross Domestic Project (GDP) of the state and the nation.


The PDP leader urged the Governor to encourage empowerment of youth in his policies and programmes.
