Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has called on traditional leaders in the state to use their positions to foster peace and peaceful coexistence among the people during and after the 2023 general elections.
Mohammed stated this on Monday when he paid a courtesy visit to Alhaji Ahmed Jarma, the District Head, Dogon Jeji community of Jama’are Local Government Area of the state, during the launching of his re-election campaign in the area.
According to him, traditional leaders were expected to maintain their roles as custodian of cultures, traditions and should be fathers to all and sundry, regardless of their political differences.
“Ordinary, traditional rulers are not supposed to involve themselves in partisan politics.
“However, because of the role they play in the lives of their subjects, they should not discriminate against anyone on the grounds of political differences, but should embrace anyone that needs their fatherly advice and support.
“We the contestants, starting from Atiku Abubakar down to myself and other candidates of the People’s Democratic Party are seeking your fatherly blessings and prayers along with your traditional leaders in this district.
“What we are doing is to hold consultations with stakeholders in order to know what is happening and what the citizens need as you are the ones that are always with the people, void of political inclinations,” he said.
Earlier, the District Head recalled how the cordial relationship that existed between his late father and that of governor Mohammed had blossomed over the years.
He explained that he was not caught off guard how excellently the governor had fared throughout his political career.
Jarma lauded the governor for the giant strides recorded in his first tenure, especially, in the areas of infrastructural development, empowerment of youths and women, health and education.
The District Head prayed for the success of governor Mohammed’s re-election bid and all the party candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general elections.
The governor also visited Alhaji Ahmed Wabi and Alhaji Adamu Wabi, District Heads of Hanafari and Galdimari communities in the area to consult, solicit for their support and prayers.
