CBN Governor Emefiele shuns Reps invitation, says he is sick

Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has reported sick and would not be able to appear before the House of Representatives as scheduled tomorrow Thursday December 22nd 2022.

This was announced in a letter read at plenary by the Speaker, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila.

The letter noted that the CBN Governor was out of the country for official and medical purposes.

” Regrettably, the Governor is out of the country official engagement as well as attending to some health challenges. He is therefore unavailable to attend the briefing”. The letter read.

The Speaker said that at this stage, the House had to rise above sentiments and accept the appearance of the team mandated to appear before it.

He noted that considering the ill health of Mr Emefiele, it was not fair to continue to insist on his physical appearance.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr Idris Wase said that delegation of duties is allowed.

“For the interest of our country, the CBN Governor is not alone. He spoke about health condition which we don’t have control over it”. Hon Wear said.

For Adebayo Babajide, it would have made more sense if the governor came by himself.

He said that the CBN is an institution and the head of the institution should be allowed to send a representative.

The chief whip of the house,Tahir Monguno however, noted that the House should not bother about the personality but the clarification to be gotten.

The House resolved that the Deputy Governor Finance System Stability, Aisha Ahmed and team of Governors would brief the House.
