Tension in Lagos as Okada riders and police clash

A violent clash has reportedly erupted between riders of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada and security personnel at Iyana-Iba, towards Ojo Cantonment in Lagos State.

 

 

A report on POLITICS NIGERIA revealed that the Okada riders (mostly Northerners) blocked roads on Thursday, protesting the ban placed on them by the Lagos State Government.

 

 

Recall the Lagos government on Wednesday banned Okada from operating in six Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

 

 

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the sanction during a meeting with police chiefs in the state, saying it is “total and indefinite”.
The affected local councils are Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Apapa.

 

 

Reports also signifies that already, the Oniru chieftaincy family estate office warned that there are plans by Okada riders to invade inner streets in some areas in Lagos to cause havoc.
