The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON has projected that the Hajj fare for the 2022 pilgrimage may reach N2.5mln.
This, was revealed by the Chairman CEO NAHCON, Alhaji Zikhrullah Kunle Hassan on the 21 April, during a meeting with the Chief Executives of States Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions at the Hajj House, Abuja.
The Commission taxed the state administrators to encourage their intending pilgrims to make more deposits in order to meet up with the said amount.
The commission gave an analysis as to why the above price could be possible noting that, the exchange rate for hajj during the 2019 Hajj was N306 but now it will be at N410 to a dollar.
It also states that, about 97 per cent of hajj fare computation is based on foreign exchange. Payment for accommodation feeding, airlines and other services in Saudi Arabia are all made in dollars.
However, the commissioner of Operations Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Hardawa further clarifies that the above amount is a mere projection just to be on the safe side while awaiting the actual amount to be paid as hajj fare.
Hardawa said the projection is meant to raise awareness as well as to keep the intending pilgrims on their toes on what to expect as far as 2022 hajj fare is concerned.
The commission also allocated 33,976 slots to States pilgrim’s welfare boards while the Tour Operators got 9,332 respectively with Niger, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kano and Kebbi States getting the highest numbers as each got over two thousand slots out of the 33, 976 slots allocated.
