Nigeria loses former Ambassador to the United States, Nsofor.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the passing of the immediate past Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America, His Excellency, Justice Sylvanus Nsofor who died in Washington.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry Ferdinand None revealed the former Nigerian envoy, was a retired Justice of the Federal Court of Appeal who died on Thursday, December 10, 2020.

He died in a Maryland hospital yesterday night at the age of 85.

He assumed office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America on November 13, 2017.

It was his first ambassadorial posting after he retired from active service from the Court of Appeal.

The late Nsofor was born March 17, 1935, in Oguta, Imo State, Nigeria.

The late ambassador is survived by Mrs. Jane Nsofor, three children, and grandchildren.

The Ministry, on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, extends to Mrs. Nsofor and her family deepest condolences and sympathy and prays for the peaceful repose of an outstanding and patriotic Nigerian public servant.
