Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who is also the former governor of Abia state has received a rousing welcome when he returned to Abia state on Monday, July 27, months after he was released from prison.
Recall that the senator was sentenced to 12 years in prison in December 2019, after he was convicted for N7.1bn fraud alongside his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and a former Director of Finance during his tenure, Ugo Udeogu.
The Supreme court on May 8, 2020, however nullified Kalu and Udeogo’s conviction on grounds that the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, lacked the jurisdiction to have presided over their case. Thos led to his release on June 3, 2020.
Meanwhile, on Monday, July 27, he made a triumphant return to the state and was received by his teeming supporters.
