Senate Greenlights Bill for New Federal College of Agriculture in Borno

?The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill for the third reading to establish a Federal College of Agriculture in Shani, Borno State, aiming to modernize farming practices and boost food production across the country.

?The passage followed the adoption of a recommendation presented by the Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions during plenary. Sponsored by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume representing Borno South, the institution is designed to equip students and local farmers with advanced agricultural knowledge, modern technology, and improved crop varieties. Senator Ndume emphasized that Nigeria's heavy reliance on crude farming methods has long hindered agricultural productivity, a challenge the new college aims to tackle head-on. Highlighting Shani as a major hub for cultivating rice, tomatoes, and onions with strategic proximity to Adamawa and Bauchi states, he described the milestone as a crown jewel of his legislative career as the session draws to a close.

?Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the committee for its thorough work and praised the sponsor for a development-driven initiative expected to catalyze national agricultural growth. Following this legislative clearance, the bill will be sent to the House of Representatives for concurrence before being forwarded to President Bola Tinubu for assent.
