The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has intensified efforts to enhance internal accountability and transparency through an upgraded Complaint Response Unit (CRU), the Force’s primary digital platform for receiving, tracking, and resolving citizen grievances.
?The newly appointed Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem, highlighted the initiative during a familiarization visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council in Abuja, calling for deeper media collaboration to boost public awareness and improve reportage on police reforms.
?Describing the CRU as a cornerstone of the Force’s internal accountability mechanism, CSP Edem noted that the unit operates 24/7 to handle allegations of professional misconduct, extortion, harassment, and human rights violations by officers nationwide.
He explained that recent upgrades are designed to shorten response times, improve case tracking, and ensure greater transparency in outcomes—steps driven by the Inspector-General of Police's commitment to institutional reform.
?To broaden police-media engagement at the zonal level, the Force PRO announced plans for an upcoming media parley with Zone 7, inviting journalists to participate and report accurately on ongoing reform efforts.
?“Journalists are part of the police family,” CSP Edem stated, emphasizing that informed reporting empowers the public to hold institutions accountable while supporting constructive reform.
?Welcoming the CRU enhancements, NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, commended CSP Edem’s proactive approach and reaffirmed the council’s readiness to collaborate.
She pledged that journalists would amplify public complaints and monitor CRU developments to ensure reported issues receive proper public scrutiny and follow-up.
