NCDMB and Industry Stakeholders Partner to Boost In-Country Oil and Gas Equipment Manufacturing

?The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), alongside key oil and gas sector stakeholders, has initiated actionable steps to implement recommendations from a comprehensive industry study aimed at advancing local manufacturing of critical components.

?During a stakeholder engagement held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, industry leaders gathered to formulate practical execution strategies designed to expand local manufacturing capacity, strengthen indigenous enterprises, and significantly curb reliance on imported oilfield equipment.

The initiative targets essential operational components—including pumps, valves, flanges, gaskets, bolts and nuts, metering solutions, and instrument fittings—which account for a substantial share of operational and capital expenditures in sustaining oil production uptime.

?Delivering remarks on behalf of Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the General Manager of Institutional Development in the Capacity Building Directorate, Mr. Olugbenga Sheba, emphasized that building localized manufacturing capability is central to deepening Nigerian content, fostering industrialization, and maximizing value retention.

Anchored on the provisions of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010, the initiative supports the board’s 10-Year Strategic Roadmap goal of achieving 70% Nigerian content by 2027.

Sheba outlined key pillars for successful implementation, including infrastructure development, structured capacity building, improved access to capital, strategic partnerships, and robust compliance enforcement.

?Technical sessions at the meeting revealed that while roughly 60 indigenous companies were assessed in the initial study, only 18 currently meet the necessary criteria, underscoring the urgent need for targeted interventions.

To help bridge these gaps, representatives from the Board highlighted financial support mechanisms available through the Nigerian Oil and Gas Content Development Fund (NCDF) and the operational advantages offered by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park Scheme (NOGaPS).

The NCDMB urged operators, manufacturers, service companies, and financial institutions to commit to collaborative action to overcome industry challenges and build a sustainable domestic supply chain.
