Ghana High Commission Presents Cake to Marks Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, Deepen Bilateral Relations

?In a rare and significant diplomatic gesture, the Ghana High Commission in Abuja has presented a commemorative cake to the Federal Republic of Nigeria in celebration of its 66th Independence Anniversary, underscoring the deep-seated friendship, historical affinity, and strategic partnership between both West African nations.

?Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Enikanolaiye described the presentation as a uniquely historic event within diplomatic circles.

He noted that the gesture vividly reflects the strength and breadth of the relationship between Nigeria and Ghana two brotherly nations bound by common aspirations and a shared past.

Recalling the Pan-African legacy of Ghana’s founding President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ambassador Enikanolaiye emphasized the need to preserve open channels of communication, resolve minor diplomatic frictions before they escalate, and continuously nurture the ties laid down by the founding fathers.

?During the exchange, both sides addressed vital regional issues, including the reactivation of Nigeria’s Joint Commissions across West Africa and joint advocacy against anti-African violence across the continent, which Ambassador Enikanolaiye stressed should be rightly termed "Afrophobia."

He also commended Ghana’s leadership at the United Nations in classifying colonialism as a crime against humanity and championing the global movement for reparations.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, he reaffirmed Nigeria’s resolve to collaborate with Ghana on security, trade, and regional integration.

?Earlier, the High Commissioner of Ghana to Nigeria, His Excellency Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, described both countries as members of the same family whose diplomatic and economic bonds continue to yield mutual investments.

Pointing to historic milestones such as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s 1959 visit to Nigerian leaders Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and Nnamdi Azikiwe—he urged the younger generation to build upon this enduring foundation.

Highlighting the vibrant socio-cultural ties that unite both populations, from social media exchanges to the famous "Jollof Wars," High Commissioner Abu added a sporting dimension to the anniversary event by presenting a Ghanaian national football jersey to Nigeria's Minister of State, reinforcing the warm, friendly rivalry and solidarity between the two nations.
